DJ GRUFF
Sandro Orrù, aka DJ Gruff (b. 1968), is a pioneer of Italy’s old-school Hip-Hop. Known for his original take on scratch and rap, he’s a turntablist, DJ, beatmaker, rapper, and producer active since 1982. He was part of legendary crews like The Place To Be, Casino Royale, Radical Stuff, Isola Posse All Stars, and Alien Army. His cult debut La Rapadopa (1993) kicked off Italian rap’s golden age, peaking with Sangue Misto’s SxM (1994), a milestone in Italian Hip-Hop history. In 2014, he began a prolific, experimental collaboration with acclaimed trombonist Gianluca Petrella, blending rap, Hip-Hop, scratch, and jazz. DJ Gruff’s rich discography is marked by constant collaborations with musicians, MCs, breakers, and street artists worldwide.
